What Kind of Matcha Should I Use For A Matcha Latte?
Many times matcha lattes are made with a mix which consists of sugar, flavorings, milk powder, colorings, and sometimes a bit of matcha tea. This matcha calls for a pure Japanese Matcha Powder instead. At SpiceTopia, our Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder is pure matcha from Japan.
To make matcha tea, add 1/2 teaspoon of matcha powder into a bowl. Pour 2 tablespoons of hot water (180°F) into the bowl while whisking in a W-shape pattern until a fine froth appears. Add more water as desired.
We have decided to no longer label our matcha as ceremonial matcha as that is a misleading marketing term which holds no meaning in Japanese tea culture. Instead we source our matcha from a farmer in whose quality of tea we trust to be the best.
Is This A Gluten-Free Matcha Latte?
Yes! Because this recipe calls for pure matcha green tea and not a matcha powder mix, you can be sure it is gluten-free.
Let’s Get Cooking!
Strawberry Layer:
Combine strawberries, powdered sugar, and 1 tablespoon of water. Puree the strawberry mixture using a blender, masher, or the back of a fork.
Matcha Tea Layer:
Add ½ teaspoon Green Matcha Powder to a bowl. Using a matcha whisk, pour 2 tablespoons of hot water (180°F) into the bowl while whisking in a W-shape pattern until a fine froth appears. Add the remaining ½ cup of water, stirring to combine. Place ice cubes into matcha to cool it down.
To Assemble:
Pour strawberry mixture into a cup. Place ice into the cup with the strawberry mixture. Then pour milk over the ice. Last, carefully pour the matcha tea over the top. We like to turn a spoon bowl side up and pour the matcha over the spoon to carefully and evenly disperse the matcha layer.
Enjoy the layers or stir it all up!
